BARRANQUILLA

The city that gave me life and taught me to see beauty. Before I knew what a photograph was, Barranquilla was already teaching me to look: at the white of a wall against an impossible blue, at a flower holding an entire afternoon in its yellow petals, at the way the light could turn an ordinary street into somewhere I would spend a lifetime trying to return. I was born here, where the Caribbean enters the conversation without knocking and joy always finds another chair at the table. I have carried this city farther than any suitcase could travel. When I come back, the years seem to wait outside while the light lets me in. These ten photographs are my way of saying thank you—to the place that gave me my first world, and the eyes with which I would discover all the others.
